A Tyranny Perhaps
“A tyranny perhaps to hold it thus,”
Spoke Pericles unto the grim agora,
“Yet to relinquish—very dangerous.”
He spoke of human life, and so discuss
War’s pressing issue with no timid aura,
“A tyranny perhaps to hold it thus.”
Thus men, propelled by natural impetus
Rush in to seek, as even did Pandora,
Yet to relinquish, very dangerous.
Some things had best be left locked up in truss,
Remove no stopper from that cruel amphora,
A tyranny perhaps to hold it thus!
Men will not so, nor seek an exodus
Although it lead to Sodom and Gomorrah--
Yet to relinquish very dangerous!
Heed no admonishments, nor make no fuss
As cling to printed book, Qur’an or Torah.
A tyranny perhaps to hold it thus,
Yet to relinquish very dangerous.
