Frantisek

Battle of Britain earned my fame,
The Nazi fighter was my foe;
And though my craft went down in flame
’Twas not due him I hated so--

But rather, to impress a girl
That pilot’s prudence I defied,
And having sought to snatch a pearl
The way I lived was how I died.

No fancy tailspin o’er the sea
But more mundane, crash landing was,
Though not my native territ’ry
Received me, as it came to pass.

With Poles I flew, that was a Czech,
The alien English flag beneath,
Against the German; Frantisek,
And in the Allied cause met death.
