Hail to Our Departing Chief
We hail to our departing chief, Obama,
In gratitude for his accomplishment,
Over eight years against severest rancor,
The worst of humankind, replaced by trauma
Of national proportions, Satan-sent,
A blot on human conscience like a canker.
However, Lord, did my America
Turn from the way of right, the way of justice?
It was not accidental, but by plan,
That legal protocol, the way of law,
And common decency, once grown robust this
Content of character, were sapped in man.
If for a moment, while the motley throng
Struggled in ways of excess and of plunder,
Arose a voice of calm intelligence,
Moral compassion, weighing right from wrong,
Never without a sense of curious wonder,
To guide our people; now devoid of sense.
The excrement and bile to now replace him,
Cabal of ignorance, malice and sloth,
Seems as ordained, to drive humanity
Into despair, the human conscience dim,
Devoid of calmness, kindness, waxing wroth
Into an ignominious destiny.
Barack Hussein Obama showed us how
To realize potential, being human,
Fallible, even self-regarding, yet
Gracious and humble, qualities that now
Receive much denigration, grown uncommon,
Though his example we shall not forget.
