I have been hit with “bait and switch,”
As I a dullard comprehend
But not in its entirety--
My mind so slow, I hesitate
And fail to act directly, tend
To fear that which confuses me
Withdrawing both from proffered bait
And promised benefits, if rich.
Where is the harm—in these days which
See man beset by would-be friend
And foe alike—to passively
Relinquish hope and face one’s fate?
The words of sorrows have to end,
And if man is defeated, he
Has little cause so to prostrate
Humiliated in the ditch.
As I a dullard comprehend
But not in its entirety--
My mind so slow, I hesitate
And fail to act directly, tend
To fear that which confuses me
Withdrawing both from proffered bait
And promised benefits, if rich.
Where is the harm—in these days which
See man beset by would-be friend
And foe alike—to passively
Relinquish hope and face one’s fate?

And if man is defeated, he
Has little cause so to prostrate
Humiliated in the ditch.
