“The Senate voted narrowly on Tuesday to begin debate on a bill to repeal major provisions of the Affordable Care Act, taking a pivotal step forward after the dramatic return of Senator John McCain, who cast a crucial vote despite his diagnosis of brain cancer.” (New York Times, July 25, 2017)
Upon his deathbed risen,
Whose life expectancy is zero,
His foremast, main and mizzen
Near hoisted on his Ship of Death
Yet even as he ekes out breath—
With help of friends, his force he gathered
To rise up from that bedding
And stumble—though his slurred words slathered
With no more chuckleheading—
Supported now by party lackeys
Who once wore regulation khakis,
And sickly to that chamber hobbled
To cast a crucial vote—
A coalition had been cobbled
By party men of note,
So even though he soon must die
The party will must calcify.
The main objective, to withdraw
The healthcare benefits
Due to the populace by law
(Those undeserving shits!),
Then afterward he might return
To healthcare that no one would spurn.
So went the tale of John McCain,
Blessed with a “trophy” wife,
A dozen mansions, so much gain
As fell to him in life—
Though poised to leave life’s earthly palace
He stopped to do a bit of malice.
