In rhetoric Republicans have made the poignant claim
That Generals Washington and Lee “exactly” were the same:
“If you are going to topple one then do the other too,”
The White House has suggested as a matter for review.
Having considered it a while I think the idea’s good,
Dr. King had a pleasant smile and I offer we should
Put him on the one-dollar bill, I have a Rolodex
Of better options: first and foremost, how bout Malcolm X?
If this will make his racist base content the Occupant
Of the White House should stand up and deliver what they want;
They want to raise the ante up by saying “Get rid of George,”
(It will not alter history when you still have Valley Forge).
Jefferson also they have held because he once held slaves
Is “equal” to the southern traitors mouldering in their graves—
Well then, if that will make them happy, cast old Tom away,
Put Hemings on the money, yet his words will still hold sway.
Nobody has much use today, amidst these social ills
For figureheads like either on one- or two-dollar bills,
While they try to drive wages down and take healthcare away,
Yet, let’s give credit: they first said it. I think it’s okay.
