Oh what a gigantic except. The introduction of Dickinson and Cummings was no small matter; and then, too, even though the poetry unit seemed utterly wrongheaded in every respect, yet she enforced a familiarity with the basic precepts. I have made note of my gratitude.
Poetry was one small subdivision among many—the other units were less antithetical to my being, though a certain oddity ran through all her priorities. She seemed at her wit's end teaching us, and I'm afraid we gave her little reward.
