Cripples at the Door

6/23/2017

“Who are these cripples at my door?”
    Quoth Mitch McConnell sadly,
“They want healthcare, then want some more,
And say they need it badly.

“Take up their wheelchairs! Toss those crutches!
    And carry them to jail—
Which they deserve (and by my clutches
    I’d have it without bail).

“They are the useless eaters—rapt
    To argue for just laws,
As though the poor and handicapped
    Deserve rich men’s applause.

“Haul them away, to jail, or worse!
    Let illness chew their soul
Or let starvation run its course,
    I have a ten-foot pole.”

Mitch shook his head, and all his crew
    Nodded in dumb assent,
“Let’s burn them as the British do”
    One shouted, and they went.

So off they went to cast their votes,
    “Repeal! Repeal! Repeal!”
“We have the bastards by the throats,”
Quoth Mitch, “it’s such a deal!”
