Ledell Lee has been put to death
By a dishonest court,
As justice hijacked bared its teeth,
One stolen court seat short.
Tried and convicted, yet remained
Much question of his guilt,
Incongruities unexplained,
Doubt-thickened sludge from silt.
The trial which first convicted him
Known faulty, if not fraud,
The evidence, untested, slim,
But justice spared no rod.
Ledell Lee vowed his innocence,
But lately Alabama
A-frenzy rushed to drive souls hence,
The bitterest means of trauma
Called forth to open up the door
Twixt this world and the next,
While death is proved no metaphor
In legalistic text.
By a majority of one,
And that the stolen seat,
Lethal injection swiftly done
Proved justice can be beat.
Ledell Lee, silent, did not curse
The men of that cabal,
Conspiracy of murderers,
But said nothing at all.
The highest court in all the land,
Itself a band of thugs,
Never impartial, lent its hand
Administering the drugs.
