On the Anniversary of the Invasion of Poland

No Liberation

Seventy-five! The years have flown
Betwixt that fateful day and this--
Polish defenses soon went down,
And optimism went amiss.

Soon the whole continent was plunged--
And more!—into the fits of war,
But fighting saw no sins expunged
Exacerbating them the more.

Some few survived, and some well fought,
But most, within the shocks and throes
Of hardship, misery soon were caught,
And ghosts forever haunted those.

Today, a lifetime has gone by,
No lessons have been learned, indeed,
As men still vie to occupy--
No liberation from man's greed.

A new poem is always news to the poet.
    Or whatever.
