One of the greatest gifts a man can have:
“Knowledge unfits a child to be a slave.”
So many who would counsel ignorance
Have specious aims, to be looked at askance.
Those who deny validity of fact
Have motives with a purpose to extract,
Such as, who say, to steal a court seat is
An ordinary business, not amiss.
Assent, and ere too long, a packed court will
Even slight whispered words of freedom still.
Take heed; attend; discern the right from wrong,
Then act—according to a conscience strong.
