The Great Defilement Goes Unnoted

5/16/2017

I think it would be helpful to have less drama: McConnell
The public was distracted by
    So many crazy antics,
As daily, a new frippery
    Induced a bunch of frantics
To armchair spout and online spew
Their prejudices, through and through,
With vehemence, as if they knew,
    Plus TV news pedantics.

Distracted, it forgot about
    The vile imposter sitting,
The High Court’s novice, supreme lout,
    Dubiety unremitting,
For he ascended by a fraud,
A gangster trick, audacious awed
The senators who did applaud
    Propriety outwitting.

Though some of them lip service paid
    To law and Constitution,
The both in spirit they betrayed
    Through their plan’s execution,
Whereby a party simpleton,
Silver-haired fox, the whitest one,
Achieved his seat, which seat being “won”
    Defiled both with pollution.

A new poem is always news to the poet.
    Or whatever.
