“On Aug. 21, 2017, people across the United States will see the sun disappear behind the moon.”
We’re busy waiting for a miracle;
And though sarcasm from your science drips
Flatly deny the earth is spherical.
“That man descended from the apes is faulty—
A theory only—unlike what was spoken
In one great book that clears all difficulty,
Despite secular thoughts: ’twill not be broken.
“If God can quicken in a virgin womb
No woman should exterminate a fetus—
When bombed abortion clinics go kaboom,
And God decrees no woman shall defeat us.
“Do not ‘distribute wealth’: some charity
Will bless the poor, or lazy, they can die,
Their darker skins belie civility,
Which they would clean if they knew Jesus nigh.
“God has decreed that we preach one behavior,
But in our leaders we take something else:
Commandments can be broken by ‘our savior,’
Some party hack, but not ‘ye infidels.’
“If God hath taught, ‘thou shalt not kill,’ we mean it
As not applicable to enemies,
Who can be rightly murdered: you have seen it,
Foreigners, darkies and minorities.”
So thus the Christian Church set forth its precepts,
The Gospel as taught in America
By the Religious Right: Christ’s ethos resets
According to Ye Olde Slaveholder’s Law.
