For forty years, repugnant men
And women (yes, their wives)
In readiness prepared for when
They might employ their knives,
Long knives intended for the heart
Of free democracy,
That they might rip themselves apart
From such a citizenry.
Oh, yes, they were deplorable
By any just account,
Affluent, cocksure and heeled well,
Self-interest paramount.
It proving not enough to rape
The people of Iraq,
Nefarious fascist plans took shape
The “homeland” to attack—
“Homeland security” a fraud,
Yet men and women willing
Each rank incursion to applaud
And hoped to make a killing.
Mostly they banded underneath
Banners “Republican,”
Touting as well some Christmas wreath
(Though Jesus not their man).
Hypocrisy they spewed and spewed—
Yes you, my “homeland” brothers,
Whom I will curse, as you collude,
And denigrate your mothers.
Your blades unsheathed may find their way
To kill my heart and spirit,
But I will call you out today,
Miscreants without merit.
That “you know not that which you do”
May well hold in this case,
But as a free man I will spew
Contempt back in your face.
If I must die, let it not be
Cowardly, though my back
Kisses the wall: my mind is free,
Beautiful, bold, and black.
A new day has to issue hence,
New formulas construed,
Your “virtue” stands as decadence,
Your “greatness” merely rude.
